How to Refresh Your Kitchen in 2021
I don’t know if it’s the new year or the cross-country move my family is currently making, but I am READY for a new kitchen! It’s probably a little bit of both, but I admit that I have been pining for a fresh, pretty, organized kitchen for… well, years. We have been talking about and planning this move for over two years, so being in temporary mode means I haven’t been able to really invest in making my kitchen the way I want it. Now that we are heading to our new forever home which is a beautiful brick fixer upper, we have so many plans to make the place our home. My most favorite part will undoubtedly be the kitchen! I am so excited to create a kitchen that is my own. I love cooking and hosting and just the feeling of inspiration and euphoria that I get from being in a beautiful kitchen.
With all that said, I couldn’t help myself but hop online and find some fresh kitchen inspo and share with you all! Not only have I been eyeing retro-style appliances like the aesthetically pleasing Smeg brand, but I’ve also been trying to organize everything better (so I can kiss those mid-cooking anxiety attacks goodbye!), and bring more sustainable, natural, eco-friendly and nontoxic household goods into our home.
I am so excited to finally live in a place that offers vintage shops and Anthropologie and small shops with more sustainable options. But I know that those options are not always easy on the wallet (I’m looking at you, Anthropologie…) so I wanted to check out Amazon and see what’s offered there. I was pleased to find out there are quite a few options for sustainable and nontoxic goods that are much more affordable! I even found some great alternatives to Smeg, which I never thought would happen because I’ve always been so stuck on them. With $200 and $300 small appliances like toasters and coffee makers, that’s not totally realistic. So I was extremely excited to find some I really like for much cheaper! Of course, I’m still sharing ALL the Smeg beauties as well because I definitely plan to save up and splurge once in a while ;)
My design style is pretty much its own. I love Scandinavian, mid century modern, industrial, vintage, retro… it’s definitely an eclectic conglomeration of styles. I can’t wait to see what comes forth in our new kitchen. I know I want to incorporate as much natural wood, white, mixed materials like gold and copper and black, vintage accents, earthy tones and pops of (soft, never harsh) color as possible. I’m excited to do a complete overhaul of my kitchen, from the design and decor to the essentials in the drawers and how they’re organized. Stay tuned for a post on our home reno!
